Whitley karate club is based around the style of wado ryu. We train for fitness, competition, self protection and the most important reason self belief and confidence. The style includes striking, blocking, evasion and detection and is suited to all persons of all abilities.

Karate uses all parts of the body from the brain to the toes, at first it may appear tricky but as with everything in life practice improves us and you can pick it up. All you need is focus and concentration. Children from the age of 5 can join and there is no age limit as to how old you are to start - we welcome everyone of all walks of life.

Training is on Thursday evenings, and we also run a fitness session on Tuesday's at our home venue in Reading (info on homepage).

The sessions are pay as you train and all money goes into the club for equipment, hire costs and student courses/events. All sessions start promptly so it is advisable to get here early to get settled and have enough fluid intake to get through the sessions.

We start each training session with a warm up followed by either basics, kata, sparring, self defence techniques, fitness or even some mental games depending on what instructor is taking the class and what we decide is best to work on.

Gradings can take place every three months and depends on how hard you train, what your pass class was from the last grading and when the instructor decides your ready.

A certain level of understanding, passion and ability is required and the final decision if you can grade is made by the chief club instructor.
